Flat-headed snake
Scientific Name:
Tantilla gracilis
Identification: 5-9 in. Pale tan to brown above with a pink cast below; eyes tiny; scales smooth.
Habits: Flat-headed snakes remain below the ground most of the time. Occasionally they may be found under rocks and logs.
Distribution: Upland pine-oak woodlands in central and northern Louisiana.
